If a Monogram Can Mark it, A Silhouette Can Top it!

Ever since I ventured into this art form of hand cutting silhouettes, I can’t help but think of new places to put them. Obviously, the most common place for a silhouette is framed. Mine are mounted onto a 5×7″ acid free card bristol board with the option for purchase of a black oval classic frame. But these black and white images also lend themselves really well to printing – even in color. This opens up a world of possibilities!

When we think of customization for our home decor, the monogram is the automatic go-to source. And also a family crest can be used if your family happens to have one. These can be used to personalize stationery or pillows, napkins etc. But I think the silhouette cameo image should also be a top contender for personalization. In fact, I’d say a hand cut silhouette with a good likeness goes even a step above a monogram. It is not only unique far beyond any three letter combination, it evokes instant recognition! So while a visual embellishment of letters entwined together may help people associate two or three letters as representing this person or this family… how much more so, does the instant recognition of a person’s profile culminate into association with an individual or a family. A family with three children, for example, could feature their three silhouettes together, overlapping or staggered diagonally relevant to age or height, with a strong composition fitting nicely into an oval or a round base or square – just like any monogram might easily fit.
